Silver Maple Sock – The Chosen One

SW Merino/Tencel – The Chosen One

Working on catching up on custom orders and getting the Bouncin’ with Brodie dyed up.  I’ll be dyeing for Trifecta after next week’s shop update.  LOVE THE FIBER!

As soon as possible, I’ll be casting on the winter birches for Lisa.  I feel guilty that she had surgery today and I couldn’t knit love her way.

Growth – in talks with a friend about dyeing a colorway to go with a retreat that she is doing.  Be a great way to get my stuff into other people’s hands.

Processes – Looking at possibly ordering some very large space bags to put yarn in to go to SSK.  If it works, it’ll be great.  If not, I don’t know what I’ll do.  Still time to think about it.

Grabby Hands – Downton Abbey.  I know everyone is watching it and talking about it, but there’s a reason – it’s LOVELY!  Such a well crafted story.  Season 1 is on Netflix instant and season 2 (most of it) is on pbs.org.

Knitting

Wicked Fast Worsted Socks – Done in FOUR DAYS.  Knit out of Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool on Us5s/3.75mm needles.  These will be either a free pattern on Rav or a recipe on the blog for y’all to adapt if you have a love one asking for socks.  I could knit LOTS of these bad boys!

Ingrid the Monster – Pattern is Irving the Icebox Monster by Rebecca Danger from her Big Book of Knitted Monsters.  LOVE her!  Made lots of mistakes, but I think she’s cute anyway.

Will be attempting to finish the French Press Slippers and the La Vie de Bois socks this week.  Wish me luck!

Meliabella, Froggymonkey and I are hosting an “Ain’t Skerrid of Sweaters” Knit Along (KAL) starting February first.  If you have a sweater to knit, join us!  We can all use the support.

Spinning

No spinning this week, but I posted Part 3 of the Southdown study, and Part 1 of the Navajo-Churro study on the blog.  My goal is to post at least once a week.  Subscribe to the blog so you don’t miss a post!

Growth

I need to decide whether to keep using the Outright program or if I should try something else.  It’s a good program that does *almost* all I need it to, but not everything and will soon cost $10 a month.  I have to investigate my options.

I had a 500% growth in my business in 2011; a 200% growth in 2012 will mean I can quit my day job and do fiber full time.  There’s no way I could have done this well without all of you.  I’m so close to achieving my dream of making a living from my fiber business!!  I am astounded that this has happened this fast.  THANK YOU.

Processes

RANT ALERT!  If you hate my rants, fast forward past this section.

when choosing colorway/club names, one can be inspired by a book/movie/etc., but one cannot just decide to use copyrighted material!  It is wrong, and what’s more – it’s illegal.  Please don’t support people who are making money off of others’ hard work.  It’s these sorts of piratical actions that enable legislation like SOPA to get as far as it has.

Graby Hands

FIBER!  New Southdown fiber will be in the shop next week, in roving and washed lock forms.  Both are delicious, smooshy, lofty, scrunchy fibers that you should absolutely try out.  I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.  :)

I bought 100% Alpaca (Cascade) from Halcyon Yarn in Bath, ME.  I also bought a WPI tool made by Nancy”s Knit Knacks.

If you want to sign up for a chance at the Trifecta of Awesome Club (all fiber, round two), sign up here by Jan 21st at 11:59pm EST.

Knitting

Poor Poet’s Mitts by Wendy Johnson knit out of Highland Handmades Sugar Maple Sock in “New Saris”

Cthulu Mittens by Diana Stafford.  Changed pattern to top-down, and reversed the coloring.  Because doing colorwork for the first time wasn’t hard enough!

French Press Slippers by French Press Knits will be coming up soon, as will an EZ dickie.  Yup.

Spinning

nope.

Dyepots

Basswood Bulky – Poetic, Blue Skies and Buttercups, Kennebec.
Mixed BFL – Poetic

Played around with self-striping; what a pain!  Will be working through my problems to get a better outcome next time.

Processes

Using a stick to help wind hanks of yarn tightly.  Such a simple easy trick!

Finding a way to get my working mojo back – sometimes it’s as easy as identifying the issue and doing something else!

Growth

Taught the LYS owner how to spin with an HH spindle!

Grabby Hands

www.yarnharlot.ca - great lists of holiday gifts for knitters!

Won yarn from Ethereal Fibers!  Sock yarn in the 100 Joules colorway.  I LOVE IT!

THANKS to Debbilynn for the generous podcast donation!  Also thanks to knitpsycho for the pattern.  Such a lovely surprise.
